Clinicians and primary healthcare can significantly contribute to the reduction in unplanned pregnancies, reduce adverse social consequences and future livelihoods of young women by through the use of emergency contraception
You will learn:
• Factors that increase the risk of unwanted pregnancy and the adverse social consequences thereof
• The efficacy of different emergency contraception methods available in South Africa and the mechanisms of action of oral emergency contraceptives
• The circumstances in which emergency contraception is indicated and considerations how to help the patient choose which option suits them best.
