Helping the clinician to select medications that can reduce troublesome symptoms of viral upper respiratory tract infections, so the prescription of antibiotics is avoided

You will learn:

  • The inclinations of South African patients and clinicians regarding the use of antibiotics for the treatment of viral upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs)
  • An approach to the assessment of URTI with the goals of identifying patients at particular risk of severe illness, distinguishing between the symptoms of common cold, influenza and COVID-19, and the use of symptom-directed medicines to avoid unnecessary prescription of antibiotics.
