Explore the four core ethical principles that guide healthcare decisions: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice; and how they relate to the integration of palliative care at the primary care level.

We will discuss
- The four core ethical principles guiding healthcare decisions are autonomy (respecting patient’s choices), beneficence (acting in the patient’s best interest), non-maleficence (avoiding harm), and justice (fair and equitable treatment)
- The argument that all patients in this situation, should receive this level of support from their health care provider as part of the accepted standard of care at primary care 2 level
- The concepts of Palliative Care as well as how clinicians can accept these concepts as a standard, additional layer of support for those living with serious conditions like advanced cancer, end-stage renal or respiratory failure, or neurodegenerative diseases
- The difference between palliative care and end-of-life care, as misunderstandings are common
- Expert communication skills as an essential competency for all clinicians
- How to deliver difficult news and engage in crucial goals-of care discussions in an ethical fashion.
