This discussion will highlight which patients should be referred to and provide insights into expected outcomes for these women and the need to address their post interventional care

Learning objectives

  • CVD is leading death in women as CV risk increases after menopause
  • Risk factors for women include the traditional risk factors associated with the metabolic syndrome and smoking, as well as a few gender specific risk factors mainly related to pregnancy and menopause
  • The presentation of and the diagnostic work-up may not be ‘typical’ –note the atypical presentations and the diagnostic pitfalls
  • The therapies for the treatment of ACS is well established and do not differ for men and women –ensure that your female patients get the same well researched evidence-based therapies as their male counterparts –many of which are life-saving
