Improvements in antiretroviral therapy for HIV-1 have led to the availability of two-drug regimens which minimise side-effects while maintaining viral suppression

Learning objectives

You will learn:

  • The advantages of newer antiretroviral medications for simplifying the treatment of HIV-1 infection
  • That two-drug regimen (2DR) ARV therapies are non-inferior and better tolerated than traditional three-drug regimens for initiation of therapy in treatment-naïve patients and for simplifying treatment in patients who are virally suppressed on their current regime
  • Which patients will benefit from 2DR ARV therapy and factors that exclude the use of 2DR.
